A Dream Come True...

Here's a funny story. It happened just last week while my Mom was in town. Really this is hilarious. Prepare yourself.
Honestly it's not that funny, but it is really sweet and still worth reading. So continue...

It just so happened that my mother's arrival coincided with me running out of various items that can only be found at Costco. Funny how that happens sometimes, right?

Also because my momma was in town the mister was on his best behavior, and because she has magical-super-mom-powers she somehow convinced him to accompany us on our trip to Costco. These powers she has, they are crazy. I think she's a wizard.

After eating every sample available and going down every aisle at least once,  I start to hear some commotion happening between the mister and my mother. Instantly I can tell they are in cahoots. This is not good.

Suddenly I am surrounded. I try not to panic.

"You know she never lets me buy her anything." the mister says on my right.

What? Where does he come up with these things? What is he trying to pull?

"Really mister? Daughter, I think we need to revisit this gift receiving subject."

Right.

"What's the one thing you've always wanted that you haven't got yet?"

Oh, he's just walking into this one!

Holding my left hand in the air and batting my eyelashes I innocently reply...
"A diamond."

Sometimes I just can't help it.

"Right, besides that."

Damn.
I don't know.
A working dishwasher?
A trip to Spain?
New flooring in my kitchen?
A free for all shopping spree at Nordstroms?

I was so caught-up with trying to remember what I really wanted that I failed to notice we had crossed the store and were suddenly standing in front of the Kitchen-Aid mixers.

Oh right!
This is what I have always wanted!

So what ensued was a highly annoying debate between the mister and me over what mixer would be going home with us that day. Apparently it wasn't an option to leave the Costco premises without one.
    Isn't it just so pretty!
I couldn't believe it, I still can't actually.
It catches me off guard sometimes and then I remember that it's mine and I get giddy.

Thanks mister!
And mom the great wizard!

Mad Organizational Skills...

Do you ever have those days where you wake up and say,
"I'm going to clean my house today. The whole thing. All of it."
No?
Just me?
Alright so I tried to clean my whole house the other day.
I started with the kitchen.
And ended with the kitchen.
Why? You ask.
Well, because I opened my pantry and this is what I saw...

I'm not going to lie.
I was scared.
I looked in the dictionary for the definition of "hot mess"
This is what I saw:

So I organized.
A lot.
And after a few hours it looked like this:

Organized serenity.
Let's take another looksie
 It makes me so happy.
Is that wrong?
You know what makes me the happiest?
My little tin-can soldier corner.
The little Mormon girl in me is just plain giddy at this sight.
I can't help it.

Most of it went to pantry numero dos.
It lives in the garage.
Now it needs organization too.
We'll save that for later.

Goodnight Peeps!

My super exciting Saturday or midterm study craziness starts...

Today I was an excellent student.
I woke up early, got my dawdling out of the way
Set up my study den
 And studied, studied, studied
For like 10 hours.

I started this morning around 10:30

And my eyes stopped focusing around 10:30

Here's what I'm studying:

These topics will rule my life from now until 12:00 on Wednesday.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

New Kitchen Toy!

Last night I made a plan for today.
I was going to:
Wake up early.
Go to school
Meet with a UO advisor
Study for my Biology mid term
Go to the gym
None of that happened.

Instead I:
Slept in a little
(till like 9, just to clarify I'm not sleeping until noon)
Did some laundry
Played Plants vs. Zombies
a lot.
Oh, and I broke the toaster.
Whoopsie!

So we went to Target to get a new toaster, which brought up the toaster oven discussion. We hardly use the microwave and to be honest it gives me the heebies to eat food from there.
So we bought a toaster oven.

And it made our kitchen go from this:

To this:

I know right now you're thinking how awesome my yellow countertops are.
I'm thinking where the heck am I going to put my recycling?
And my Bailey's?

But now for dinner.
Which may or may not include frozen pizza.

This is happening...

Today I cleaned half of my house. Then I ran out of steam and took a nap.

I've had that foggy headed-no energy-blah feeling now for a few days and today was definitely the worst so far.

I hate that feeling.

Sickness is not an option.

Even though it's October and I always get sick in October, it's proven. Last year it was the swine flu, the year before that it was a killer cold. Every year October=sickies.

No bueno.

And I'm contemplating not going to class tomorrow. I think I'll go unless I wake up and feel like absolute death. My reasoning: it's our friend Felica's birthday party tomorrow and I promised her a cake. A cake that I don't have all the ingredients for. Since the mister and I share a car I'll need it to get the missing ingredients so if I have to wake up and take him to work I may as well go to class. We'll see. I may just take him, go to the store, come home and go back to bed.

It comes in waves that icky feeling. One minute I'm fine, the next the lady at the convenience store is telling me I look really tired. Yeah that happened, I didn't really know what to say. Inside it went something like "mind your own business and give me my f-in' 7-up lady!"

And this cake is also not an option. Why? Because it's this cake. Tomorrow is a trial run for C's boyfriend's birthday. And it looks delicious, and I've wanted to make it since I got the book.

So now I'm off to bed.

But first I want to say thank you for the comments! It really makes my day to think someone is reading this stuff! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Goodnight!

Foiled. Again!

I had but one thing I really wanted to accomplish during my time alone. That was to take back the annex, to restore order to the mister's "office", to establish a place we could both use, if we so wanted. I didn't want to take away the man-caveyness, I just wanted to make it look a little nicer.

Alright twist my arm, I wanted a place where I could easily put up my sewing machine.

Well, that's not happening. My plan for today was to hit the thrift stores and find a rug and some storage and seating options for the room. And to find a collapsible table for my sewing machine.

I was so excited to get this done since the most I see of the annex is when I pop in to tell the mister that dinner is done, he has a phone call, or to drop off laundry.

So last night when I finally opened the door to see exactly what I was dealing with I was surprised to find this:
  A total HOT MESS!
And let's not talk about the smell that hit me square in the nose. After making sure nothing was going to reach out and bite me I carefully entered the room. I thought maybe it wasn't as bad as it looks...
I was wrong. It was as bad as it looks.

That's for you mister, "I'll clean the room before I leave"

So plans, they changed, now we have a Sunday project!
Notice the "we."

Today instead of thrift stores I went to Target to buy some curtains, and a few other things I ABSOLUTELY needed.

Today was all about retail therapy.

And tonight, well it's 80's movie night!

'Nuff said.
